ODL has a critical role to play as a coordinator of the application interaction with the network. In this talk, we will take a the whole tour. Starting from a Policy influencing ODL’s behavior, to creating a Service Chain (complete with Control and Data planes, supporting the IETF SFC workgroup drafts), with cooperating virtual appliances in the role of Service Functions. ODL’s role will be highlighted in topology discovery, SFC setup, collaborating with OvS to setup a service chain, to support Service Function Forwarder (SFF) and to use HW offload where available and needed or using SW offload (e.g. DPDK)
