The SDN paradigm can be used to improve the customer experience in pure legacy and mixed legacy/virtualized service provider networks, bringing on-demand, self-service and faster service delivery. Thanks to its modular architecture, OpenDaylight can be a key component.
In this presentation, Gwenael Lambrouin will describe a proof of concept platform developed at b<>com that uses the OpenDaylight controller to provision Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) over a multi-vendor network of routers. He will present a generic equipment driver that brings an isolation layer between network applications and the targeted hardware. He will also give a feedback on using the NETCONF plugin with legacy routers. Finally, Gwenael will cover the lessons learned during the development and give some possible areas of improvement for OpenDaylight (CLI drivers ...) and for the b<>com platform (HA ...)
