The OpenDaylight project is designed to be easily consumed by companies that would like to build products based on OpenDaylight. However, doing so in an efficient way requires care. The path of least resistance for local development often results in accidentally forking, which causes protracted pain to resolve. Further, it is relatively easy to fall afoul of the Eclipse Public License without carefully understanding it.

In this talk, Colin will talk (at a high-level) about his experience building products from OpenDaylight at two companies including key recommendations about how to structure code repositories, when you should push patches back to OpenDaylight, and how to consume OpenDaylight as close to real time as possible without disrupting local development.
